PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound in high yield, by tetramerizing hydrocyanic acid in a mixed solvent composed of an aprotic polar solvent and a solvent inert to diaminomaleonitrile, in the presence of a basic substance and a specific cocatalyst. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound is produced by adding hydrocyanic acid dropwise to a mixed solvent composed of an aprotic polar solvent (e.g. dimethyl formamide, acetonitrile, etc.) and an organic solvent inert to diaminomaleonitrile (e.g. xylene), at 55-70 deg.C in the presence of a basic substance (e.g. triethylamine, sodium hydroxide, etc.) and one or more cocatalysts selected from organic mercaptan, organic disulfide, thiocyanate compound, and isothiocyanate compound. The ratio of the aprotic polar solvent to the solvent inert to diaminomaleonitrile is (5-95):(95-5). |
