PURPOSE:To raise the thermoelectromotive force of a temperature differential battery by adding to the electrolytic solution of the battery a complexing agent which can form a complex with ions contained in this electrolytic solution. CONSTITUTION:A complexing agent is added to an electrolytic solution 3 of a temperature differential battery. Thus the ions are complexed in accordance with the equilibrium constants for a complex forming reaction, and, as a result, the entropy of ions changes, and consequently the thermoelectromotive force also changes. When this change of entropy is positive, the thermoelectromotive force is changed in the negative direction, but, when the change of entropy is negative, the thermoelectromotive force is changed in the positive direction. Depending upon the kind of electrode reactions, the thermoelectromotive force may be positive or negative. To make the thermo-electric conversion highly efficient, the thermoelectromotive force is made large in its absolute value. In this way, the thermoelectromotive force can be raised. |
