PURPOSE:To reduce thermal stress to be imposed upon a framework and panels after extending in space by a method wherein auxiliary beams bent outward applies tension to the panels when they are retracted. CONSTITUTION:Auxiliary bent beams 9a, 9b are provided in the front and rear surfaces of panels 1 whereon solar battery cells 4 are installed. The bent beams 9a, 9b are fixed to longitudinal beams 2b and their maximum height h2 is so designed as to exceed the height h1 of lateral beams 2a. When the solar generator is retracted on a hinge 3, the bent beams 9a, 9b push outward the panels 1 adjoining the bent beams 9a, 9b. Tension is created in the panels 1 under deformation which are flexible and the tension serves to prevent the panels 1 from vibrating the panel 1 being under a vibrating load. Once in space, the solr generator is extended, relieving the panels 1 from tension, when the adverse effect of thermal stress generated by solar heat will be little. |
