PURPOSE:To remove efficiently P and S from a molten iron alloy contg. Cr without dissipating Cr by blowing a flux for dephosphorization contg. an alkaline earth metallic carbonate having a specified mol.wt. into the molten alloy together with carbon with a carrier gas. CONSTITUTION:About 10-50kg/t flux for dephosphorization contg. an alkaline earth metallic carbonate having >=147mol.wt. is blown into a molten iron alloy contg. Cr together with about 3-20kg/t carbon with a carrier gas. A dephosphorization reaction is made to proceed efficiently while using inexpensive starting materials for the flux and minimizing the dissipation of Cr, and the iron alloy contg. Cr is refined. It is desirable that the molten iron alloy is previously desiliconized to <= about 0.1% Si concn. SrCO3, BaCO3 or the like is used as said alkaline earth metallic carbonate, and an alkalie earth metallic carbonate having <147mol.wt. such as CaCO3 or MgCO3 can not be used. |
