A flat panel display glass substrate according to the present invention includes a glass comprising, as expressed in mol %, 55-80% SiO2, 3-20% Al2O3, 3-15% B2O3, 3-25% RO (the total amount of MgO, CaO, SrO, and BaO), and substantially no As2O3, and Sb2O3. The devitrification temperature of the glass is 1250° C. or less. The glass substrate has a heat shrinkage rate of 75 ppm or less. The heat shrinkage rate is calculated from the amount of shrinkage of the glass substrate measured after a heat treatment which is performed at a temperature rising and falling rate of 10° C./min and at 550° C. for 2 hours by the heat shrinkage rate (ppm)={the amount of shrinkage of the glass substrate after the heat treatment/the length of the glass substrate before the heat treatment}×106. |

1. A method for manufacturing a flat panel display glass substrate, the method comprising:
a melting step of melting a glass material for a glass comprising, as expressed in mol %, 55-80% SiO2, 3-20% Al2O3, 7.8% or less—B2O3, 0-1 mol % La2O3, 0.01-0.3 mol % SnO2, and 3-25% RO (the total amount of MgO, CaO, SrO, and BaO), and substantially no As2O3 and Sb2O3, and the devitrification temperature of the glass being 1150-1240° C. or less, to produce a molten glass, a forming step of forming the molten glass into a glass plate, and an annealing step of annealing the glass plate, wherein:
the contents in mol % of SiO2 and Al2O satisfy a relationship SiO2−(Al2O3/2)=63.6-69, the strain point of the glass is 716° C. or more, the devitrification temperature of the glass is 1170° C. or more, the content of SrO is no less than 0% and less than 3%, the content of MgO is 5.8 mol % or less, the density of the glass is 2.6 g/cm3 or less, the heat shrinkage rate of the glass plate is 75 ppm or less, and the heat shrinkage rate is calculated from the amount of shrinkage of the glass plate measured after a heat treatment which is performed at a temperature rising and falling rate of 10° C./min and at 550° C. for 2 hours by:
the heat shrinkage rate (ppm)={the amount of shrinkage of the glass plate after the thermal treatment/the length of the glass plate before the heat treatment}×106, wherein in the melting step, the molten glass is produced to have a β-OH of 0.05-0.40 mm−1. |
