The invention relates to a reference element which, coupled to the accelerator pedal, forms part of a device for adjusting the speed of travel of vehicles. The solution according to the invention essentially comprises a plunger on which friction elements, tiltable by means of hinges, are fixed, and a sleeve in which the plunger is arranged so that it can slide against restoring forces which act on the tiltable friction elements. If a force acts on the accelerator pedal and hence on the plunger of the reference element, the friction elements are pressed by the force on the plunger and the restoring forces directed in opposition against the wall of the sleeve and brake the movement of the plunger in the sleeve. The purpose of this arrangement is to render the output signal of the reference element insensitive to slight variations of the force on the accelerator pedal. |
