A plate (1) comprises two housings (2) for two corrugated or lozenge-patterned membranes (3). They are not clamped between the contact surfaces (4) of the plates/frames or of the chambered plates. Each housing (2) is limited to the peripheral framing of the plate (1) corresponding to the said surfaces. Each membrane is fixed by a device (9-11-13) forming corrugations for the removal of the filtrates. The present filter presses, in particular those with a vertical axis, have only one useful filter cloth and one membrane per plate. The means according to the invention use them in pairs, and this shortens filtering time and the compression time of the filter cakes by approximately a half in many industries. <IMAGE>
