The use of quinoline derivatives of the formula <IMAGE> where R1, R2 and R3 independently of one another are hydrogen, halogen, nitro, cyano, C1-C3-alkyl or C1-C3-alkoxy, R4, R5 and R6, independently of one another are hydrogen, halogen or C1-C3-alkyl, A is one of the groups -CH2-, -CH2CH2- or -CH(CH3)- and Z is a) cyano or amide oxime which can be acylated on the oxygen atom, or b) a carboxyl group or a salt thereof, a mercaptocarbonyl group or a salt thereof, a carboxylate group, a thiocarboxylate group, an unsubstituted or substituted carboxamido group, a cyclised, unsubstituted or substituted derivative of a carboxamido group, or a carboxylic acid hydrazide group, or A and Z together are an unsubstituted or substituted tetrahydrofuran- 2-one ring, including their acid addition salts and metal complexes, for protecting crop plants against damaging effects of herbicidally active derivatives of 2-[4-(benzoxazole-, benzothiazole- and quinoxaline-2- yl-oxy)-phenoxy]-propionates. The abovementioned herbicidal derivatives are those of the formula II <IMAGE> in which M is -OR' or -N(CN)-R2', R' is C1-C12-alkyl which is substituted by 1 to 6 halogen atoms, by C1-C6-alkoxy or C1-C4-alkylthio, R2' is C1-C4-alkyl, C3-C4-alkenyl, C3-C4-alkynyl or alkoxyalkyl having a total of 2 to 4 carbon atoms, and Q is <IMAGE> in which X is an oxygen or sulphur atom, R1' and R1" are halogen, trifluoromethyl, nitro, cyano, C1-C4-alkyl or C1-C4-alkoxy, and n and m are 0, 1 or 2, or, when m is -N(CN)-R2', additionally <IMAGE> where Hal<1> is fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine or trifluoromethyl, Hal<2> is fluorine, chlorine, bromine, trifluoromethyl or hydrogen, and L is the structural element N- or CH-. |
