The invention relates to an electrode for arc furnaces, especially arc furnaces which are operated with the use of scrap metal, consisting of a consumable part which forms the electrode tip, of an upper part which can be inserted into an electrode holder and of a central part, which is connected internally to the upper part, is placed detachably on the lower part, is constructed as a double-walled hollow cylinder and has a fluid flowing through it, it being possible to pass an electrical current via the hollow cylinder which is covered by a refractory compound. In order to create protection for electrodes of arc furnaces, which protection increases the life and reliability of the water-cooled metallic part of the electrode and makes it possible to carry out the necessary maintenance tasks in production in a time which scarcely impedes production, it is proposed that a sleeve (3) which is concentric with respect to the hollow cylinder (2) be arranged in a replaceable manner, that the sleeve (3) be connected in a heat-transmitting manner to the hollow cylinder (2) and that thermally conductive pins (31), which are covered by refractory material (4), be mounted on the outer wall of the sleeve (3). <IMAGE>
