PURPOSE:To reduce pressure loss while enhancing gas diffusibility, by providing a large number of holes, each of which has a cross-sectional area larger than the outer diameter of each internal communication pore and is directly opened to an outflow end and extended to an inflow end, between the inflow end and the outflow end. CONSTITUTION:A large number of, for example, 45 holes 4 each havig a diameter of 3mm. are formed in a catalyst carrier comprising a ceramic structure 1 so as to reach the gas outflow end 3 thereof from the position 5mm. from the surface of the gas inflow end 2 thereof. The wall 5 formed by these holes 4 has porous ceramic comprising a three-dimensional reticulated structure and has a ceramic skeletal and communication pores 7 provided therein. The ceramic structure 1 is constituted of a cordierite ceramic material. The structure 1 is obtained by a method wherein an org. compound foam having a three-dimensional reticulated skeletal having a shape approximate to that of the structure 1 is molded in a mold and impregnated with a ceramic slurry, to which film removing treatment was applied, before baking. |
