PURPOSE:To simplify operation and to increase the reliability of communication by integrating features of a digital facsimile and a character data I/O terminal. CONSTITUTION:Communication control section 13 and 14 detects the connection between them each other to be in the mode of retreiveing and registering image data base for a data base. The communication control section 13 reports communication start to the data base through a communication line via a common modulate and demodulate section 15. The communication control section 14 in a character data I/O terminal section 17 controls a data control section 10 to be in the state that a specific item in the data base can be specified. When an operator specifies the item using a keyboard section 8. The communication control section 13 in the facsimile section 16 is to be in the state that data is sent or received and can retrieve and register image data for the data base.
