PURPOSE:To obtain hollow fibers having improved water and moisture absorption, and specific micropors, by treating composite fibers prepared from a polyalkylene terephthalate and a metal organic sulfonate with an alkali. CONSTITUTION:A polyester compring (A) a polyalkylene terephthalate consisting mainly of repeating units of the formula (n is an integer 2-6) and (B) 0.01-40 wt% based on (A) of a metal organic sulfonate, preferably sodium stearyluslfonate, of the formula R SO3M [R is 3-30C alkyl, 7-40C aryl, or alkylaryl group; M is alkali (earth) metal]is spun into fibers comprising 5-70% of (B) in the fiber cross-sections. The fibers are then drawn and immersed in an aqueous alkali to remove at least part of the metal salt. According to the method, the desired fibers having uniform communicated micropores with 5-70% of the cross-sections oriented in the fiber axis direction can be obtained. |
