The present invention relates to a mixing valve of the type in which the means for opening and closing the valve consists of a fixed plate with two separate inlet holes, for hot and cold water respectively, and an outlet hole for the cold water, for hot water or for mixed water, and of a movable plate which can be adjusted on the fixed plate and relative to the latter and contains a cavity or mixing chamber and can connect one or both water inlet holes to the water outlet hole. Provided in the mixing chamber of the second plate is a flow-breaking element or flow-disturbing element in grid, mesh, sieve or net form, which is suitably designed and arranged in a vertical plane so as to intercept and break up the flow of the liquid medium and reduce the noise generated during the discharge of the water.
