In a patient connected to an artificial kidney for the purpose of haemodialysis it may be necessary to transfer him to a so-called shock position as quickly as possible. This shock position differs from the position normally assumed by the patient on the dialysis chair (10). In order to able to pivot the head part (12) and the foot part (16) of a dialysis chair (10) comprising a head part (12), a seating surface (14) and a foot part (16), as reliably and simply as possible into the essentially horizontal position, the head part (12) and the foot part (16) are connected to one another via an integral shaped piece (30) which is located on that side of the dialysis chair (10) which is opposite the support surface (18). <IMAGE>
