PURPOSE:To obtain a partially hydrogenated compound, by distilling out the light component from coal tar or desludged coal tar, and lightly hydrogenating the treated coal tar under specific condition and specific hydrogen consumption rate using a catalyst containing Mo, Ni and Co. CONSTITUTION:Coal tar or desludged coal tar is distilled to separate the light component having a boiling point lower than the absorption oil fraction, and the remaining component having a boiling point of >=280 deg.C is hydrogenated under a hydrogen pressure of 40-180kg/cm<2>G at 300-420 deg.C and a liquid space velocity of 0.2-2.0/hr using a catalyst contining Mo, Ni and Co, to obtain the objective compound. The factor of the compound representing the degree of the partial hydrogenation and derived from the result of <1>H-NMR is 0.4<=Hbeta/Halpha<1.1 (Hbeta is amount of hydrogen attributed to delta=1.0-2.0cm; Halpha is amount of hydrogen attributed to delta=2.0-4.2ppm). The average pore diameter of the catalyst is 80-180Angstrom , and the surface area of the pore of >=35Angstrom diameter is >=100m<2>/g. |
