PURPOSE:A microorganism which is capable of decomposing or assimilating ethylene or an extract therefrom is contained in packages of vegetables or flowers to prevent them from overripening and keep their freshness. CONSTITUTION:A microorganism which is capable of decomposing or assimilating ethylene such as Corynebacterium equi or an extract therefrom is contained in packages of vegetables (climacteric type) and flowers (carnation). EFFECT:It is enough to use only one kind of freshness keeper. Moreover, it can be readily applied and disposed with high safety to keep good taste and color. The extract may be directly coated on the substrates.
