<p>An air safety cushion assembly, which is adapted to be attached to an interior portion of an aircraft and inflated toward a seated occupant. The assembly is defined by a transparent inflatable cushion member (30) which is attached to an air or gas source (14) and is activated so that it will inflate and protect the seated occupant from impact. The assembly can be deployed over an aircraft windshield (23) and/or instrument panel (21) in order to also provide an aircraft pilot with visibility through the safety cushion when the cockpit is filled with smoke. Furthermore, an inflatable cushion member can be formed into aircraft furniture (51), such as passenger seats, in order to provide lightweight furniture that will not become dislodged in the event of sudden stops, bumps, or other impact, and which will thus minimize injuries to aircraft occupants.</p> |
