The invention relates to a device for opening and closing a door, especially sliding door (1), with an opening device part (5) and a closing device part (6), preferably for a fire door or the like, the closing movement of which is generated by a closing weight (7). The object of the invention is to design the device in such a way that the closing operation is not impeded by the opening device part (5). This is achieved by means of a coupling (29) which is inserted into the force-transmission path between the door (1) and the opening device part (5) and connects the opening device part (5) operatively to the door (1) only when the said opening device part (5) is actuated.
