A monitoring device for the water filling in aquariums has two immersion electrodes (10), which are to be arranged underneath the water level in the aquarium, are mounted on an aquarium holder (5) and form a current link of a quiescent-current circuit which acts on a signal transmitter. If the water level falls and the immersion electrodes (10) thus surface, the associated current link is interrupted and the signal transmitter is caused to act. The aquarium holder (5) is constructed as a suction cup and can thus be arranged at any desired level in the aquarium. <IMAGE>
