The oil filter (1) comprises a sealed enclosure (2) which is partly filled with liquid (5) heavier than oil (6). The filter has an inlet opening (3) for the oil below the liquid level and an outlet opening (4) above the liquid (5) level via which the filtered oil passes to a burner (10) etc. - The enclosure is pref. filled to about one third with the heavier liquid (water) and may consist of a rectangular e.g. qrey cast iron container sealingly closed by a pref. transparent, e.q. acrylic, cover. It is arranged in the space (12) containing the heating boiler.
