Expansion joints known hitherto are constructed from many component parts being welded together for the formation of a functionable expansion joint. This entails high manufacturing costs and a large outer diameter giving trouble at the insulating and other handling. Besides, these expansion joints are not suitable for transmitting the considerable tension and compression stresses which may occur, in particular in district heating lines. This results in that they are often ruptured or deformed during disruption of district heating deliveries, digging up, etc., so that they must be exchanged. An expansion joint according to the invention, which may be an operating expansion joint (Fig. 1) or a disposable expansion joint (Fig. 2) merely consists of a bellows 9, 26 between two tube sections 1, 2 and 17, 18. Around the bellows, a tube section 6, 22 extends, being conically contracted 7, 8 and 20, 24 at the ends, and around this a further tube section 3, 19, likewise provided with a cooperating conicity 4, 20 at one or both ends 5. In this way, a simple and robust expansion joint is provided which is slender and thus easy to fit into the insulation. <IMAGE>
