PURPOSE:To provide an information recording medium which permits stable recording without forming bits, consists of a single-layered recording film and has excellent resistance to oxidation by sputtering an In target by the plasma of a gaseous mixture composed of at least methane hydrocarbon and oxygen on a substrate thereby forming the recording film. CONSTITUTION:The recording film 12 manufactured by sputtering the In target by the plasma of the gaseous mixture composed of the methane hydrocarbon and oxygen is deposited on the substrate 11. For example bubbles (build-up deformed parts) 13 formed by the irradation of the laser beam which is pulse- modulated according to the information to be recorded are provided on the film 12. The irradiated laser beam for reproduction is diffracted according to the shape of the bubbles 13 in the region where the bubbles 13 are formed and therefore the intensity of the reflected or transmitted light is considerably different from the intensity of said light in the region (flat part) where the bubbles 13 are not formed. The satisfactory reproduction of good CNR is thus made possible by detecting the intensity of the reflected or transmitted light and taking out the reproduced output corresponding to the presence or absence of the bubbles 13.
