The invention relates to a device for attaching a carpet rod to a step of an open staircase. It is distinguished by a substantially U-shaped bar which has two limbs connected to one another by a yoke section, by a contact surface subjected to the effect of a spring element on one limb, and by a loop body provided near to the transition region between the other limb and the yoke section on the bar with a loop opening to receive one end of the carpet rod.
