In the method for binding substances which pose a threat to the environment, first lignite ash and water are intensively and thoroughly mixed in a first mixer (25). The pasty mixture obtained in this way is introduced into a first chamber (28) of a storage container (27). A metered quantity of contaminant is introduced into a second chamber (29). Both the chambers (28, 29) are simultaneously emptied downwards into a second mixer (33, 34) which operates continuously. The paste obtained is consolidated by bonding. <IMAGE>
