In a process for drying exhaust gases arising in the combustion of fuels and cooled for heat recovery in a heat exchanger and, as a result, moist, these exhaust gases, to keep the exhaust gas discharge system dry, are reheated by process heat or external heat. The reheating is carried out to a point such that the exhaust gases do not undershoot the dew point defined by the residual moisture during the cooling procedure during conduction through the exhaust gas discharge system.
