PURPOSE:To make a disk face exclusively used for servo unnecessary, and to make the device resistant to thermal expansion, and to obtain continuously servo information by arranging tracks exclusively used for servo at equal intervals at a rate of 1 per N data tracks (N is a natural number) on a magnetic disk face. CONSTITUTION:Plural data tracks DT and an exclusive servo track ST are arranged successively at equal spaces on a disk face of a magnetic disk 1. The relation between data tracks DT and exclusive servo track ST is N data tracks (N is a natural number) is shown by one exclusive servo track. Signals different from the data tracks are recorded on the exclusive servo track ST. For instance, a continuous square wave entirely different in occupied band width from the data tracks DT is recorded on the exclusive servo track. Thus, signals from data tracks DT and signals from the exclusive servo tracks ST can be distinguished by a simple circuit such as a filter etc. when reading servo information using a magnetic head.
