PURPOSE:To obtain a high strength nonmagnetic stainless steel having superior corrosion resistance and satisfactory weldability by specifying a composition consisting of C, Si, Mn, Ni, Cr, N, V and Fe and relation among the components and by properly regulating the composition according to the extent of cold working. CONSTITUTION:The composition of a stainless steel consisting of, by weight, <=0.12% C, 3-6% Si, 3-9% Mn, 12-16% Ni, 16-22% Cr, 0.1-0.25% N, <=0.5% V and the balance Fe with impurities and satisfying -10.0<A(gamma)<0 [A(gamma)=Ni+0.5Mn+30(C+N)-1.3Cr-2.6Si-13V+11.8] is regulated according to the extent of cold working applied so that the Ni equiv. [Ni equiv.=Ni+0.6 Mn+9.69(C+N)+0.18Cr-0.11Si<2>+2.3V] is set in the range on a curve A-A in the diagram. The resulting stainless steel is cold worked and heat treated preferably at about 300-600 deg.C to obtain a high strength nonmagnetic stainless steel. |
