The present invention relates to a device for detecting birth in a sow. This mechanical detection system is in the form of a plastic-coated copper wire 1 made into a triangle and sliding on closed hooks 11 at the rear end of the base of the sow pen 6. This wire is connected to a washer 2 made of metal which has a diameter of 10 mm. The latter maintains a contact in the resting position 3 powered by a direct current of 12 V. At the time of birth, the piglet will abut against the sliding wire 1 which will free the washer 3, which will have the immediate effect of closing a time-delay relay of known electronic design and which is connected to an electronic circuit 11 which will actuate a signal lamp, an audible or luminous alarm. <IMAGE>
