<p>A lathe (1) for machining a balloon-shaped pocket (2) in a turbine rotor comprises a carriage (13) disposed on ways (15) to move axially along the bed of the lathe (1) and a cross-feed (19, 31) mounted on the carriage (13), which moves toward and away from the axis of the lathe. A tear-dropped shaped tool holder (21, 27) for holding a single-edged cutting tool (23) is disposed on the cross-feed (19, 31) in such a manner that the cutting tip of the single-edge tool (23) moves in a circular arc and cooperates with the cross-feed (19, 31) to cut a balloon-shaped pocket (2) in a turbine rotor.</p> |
