An apparatus to keep railway switches free from snow comprises at least one air exhaust device (2,4) located outside the track area, at one side of the track. The air exhaust device includes at least one box-like elongated air exhaust element (2,4) which is fed from a fan and extends substantially in parallel to the tracks. The air exhaust element is constructed with a gap-shapedexhaust opening (16) which runs mainly over its entire length and is directed towards the track area in order to generate thereover a substantially horizontalair curtain above the rails.
