<p>@ An improved valve with an improved stem seal includes a body (12) having a valve chamber (14), an inlet (16) to and an outlet (18) from the valve chamber, and a valve seat (36) in the valve chamber. A valve member (20) is movable in the valve chamber and coacts with the valve seat to control flow through the valve. A valve stem (22) is connected to the valve member (20) and extends through an opening in the body, and a stem sealing assembly (40) is positioned in the opening surrounding the stem. The assembly (40) includes a wear resistant and corrosion resistant sealing ring (42) having a plurality of internal and external grooves with internal and external sealing lips between the grooves, and an annular end recess (60) opening toward the valve member, a soft sealing ring 146, 48) in each of the inner rod outer grooves farthest from the valve member and a load ring (44) positioned in the end recess and having a tapered external surface extending toward the axis of the stem in a direction toward the valve member. In a modified form of the sealing assembly the load ring also includes an internal taper extending toward the axis of the stem in a direction away from the valve member.</p> |
