<p>Apparatus for severing components for example, electrical posts (26), from a strip (12a to 12d) of such components and for inserting each severed component (26) into a workpiece (8), for example, a circuit board, comprises a row of strip feed units (64, 66, 68 and 70), each for feeding a different strip (12a to 12d) of components (26) towards strip severing blades (56, 58) and a component insertion punch (50). The row of feed units (60, 66, 68 and 70) can be shifted lengthwise thereof to align a selected one of the units (64, 66, 68, 70), at a time, with the severing blades (56, 58) and insertion punch (50), in accordance with a component insertion program. Each feed unit (64, 66, 68 and 70) is movable between a position to allow a desired strip feed unit (64, 66, 68 or 70) to be selected and a feed position in which said unit is actuable to feed its strip (12a to 12d).</p> |
