Mixing appliance 10 for preparing starter dough which comprises a tank 12 intended to receive the water, the flour and the yeast making up the starter dough, and a stirring assembly 30 arranged in the said tank, characterised in that the said stirring assembly is composed of a movable stirrer 32 with blades 38, rotationally driven about a substantially vertical axis XX corresponding to that of the tank by a reduction motor unit 18, of which the blades 38 are situated spaced away from the axis and at a small distance from the walls of the tank 12, and of a fixed stirrer 34 extending substantially along the axis, shaped into a helical ramp and mounted between the blades of the moving stirrer. <IMAGE>
