PURPOSE:To reduce the cost of the negative plate by fusing a current collector made of a conductive resin to a thermoplastic resin cloth to form an active material support and then packing a pasty active material into the cloth. CONSTITUTION:A current collector 2 made of a conductive synthetic resin is fused, for example, to a nonwoven polypropylene cloth 1 to form an active material support. The thus formed support is then immersed in a pasty solution prepared by dissolving a powdery mixture composed of CdO, Cd, Ni and the like in a solvent such as ethylene glycol, glycerol or isopropyl alcohol to pack the active material into the porous cloth 1. After that, the thus formed body is dried and then cut into given dimensions, thereby making a negative plate. The use of the cloth 1 as the support enables the cost and the weight of the negative plate to be reduced. |
