The invention relates to an apparatus for introducing a flat textile web into textile finishing machines, which is formed by a sensor for monitoring the edge of a textile web, by a motor, provided with a movement screw, for actuating one arm of the chain guide in the plane of the flat textile web, and by a circuit for actuating the motor. The object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed and reliably working apparatus having a long lifetime. The essence of the invention is that the apparatus is provided with a freely rotatable selsyn tilting unit fed with a harmonic voltage which is supplied either to the rotor (2) or to the stator (1), that a sensor for the edge of the textile web is mounted on the freely rotatable shaft of the rotor (2) of the selsyn tilting unit, that two harmonic phase-shifted voltages are taken from the stator (1) or the rotor (2) and are converted by means of a detector into a direct voltage, the magnitude and polarity of which are determined by the direction and magnitude of an intermediate-position deviation of the rotor (2), and that these voltages serve for controlling the speed and direction of movement of the motor. <IMAGE>
