PURPOSE:To discriminate the presence or absence of a nuclear tablet of a tablet to thoroughly eliminate a non-nuclear tablet by detecting the change of the height in a mortar hole of the nuclear tablet imposed in the mortar hole of a mortar by means of an optical displacement sensor. CONSTITUTION:The nuclear table 2 is supplied into the mortar 2 contg. the 1st powder 5a and thereafter a rotary disk 1 rotates to supply the 2nd powder 5b. The optical displacement sensor 20 is disposed in the position before the 2nd powder 5b is supplied. The change of the height in the mortar hole of the nuclear tablet 7 imposed in the mortar hole of the mortar 2 is detected by such sensor 20; for example, the preliminarily detected height of the powder 5a when there is no nuclear tablet and the height of the nuclear tablet 7 imposed on the powder 5a are compared and the change of the height the mortar hole is thereby detected. The tablet is recognized to be normal if the tablet has the prescribed height. The tablet is recognized to be abnormal such as non-nu clear tablet if the height of the tablet is not the prescribed height. Such abnor mal tablet is discharged as a defective tablet separately from the nucleated tablet which is a non-defective tablet.
