PURPOSE:To permit the positioning with high precision by setting the standard points for detecting the work starting point position at two places on a pallette and calculating the position deflection by detecting the position of the standard point by a standard sphere on the Z-shaft interlocked with an NC apparatus, in a pallette changer type electric discharge machine. CONSTITUTION:When a pallette 4 which clamps a workpiece is installed, inclined at the inclination angle between a standard block 3, the centers Do and Eo of the standard holes 4a and 4b formed onto the pallette 4 are detected by a standard sphere 9 installed onto a Z-shaft interlocked with an NC controller. Then, the inclination theta between the centers Do and Eo of the standard holes is calculated by the NC controller and memorized, and the position deflection of the pallette is confirmed correctly, and the work starting point Wo is obtained through calculation. Therefore, even if the pallette is installed onto the standard surface with low precision because of sludges, etc., the position deflection is detected, and the work starting point can be positioned with high precision.
