A device for centring and gripping a solid of rotation, in particular a motor vehicle wheel, on a balancing machine, having a gripping and centring head which can be removed from a gripping plate and has gripping bolts which are guided through mounting holes in the solid of rotation, which rests on the gripping plate, and are fixed in corresponding gripping holes in the gripping plate by introducing a tensile force acting on the gripping bolts when mounting the solid of rotation on the gripping plate, the gripping bolts being released from their gripping bolt guides on the gripping head.
