The present invention relates to a distance measuring device using a single camera and a distance measuring method and, more specifically, to a distance measuring device using a single camera and a distance measuring method capable of measuring an actual distance between an obstacle and a vehicle using the single camera. To achieve this, the present invention includes: the camera attached to the vehicle and taking images of right and left sides of the vehicle while horizontally moving a predetermined distance set in advance to take the images of the outside of the vehicle; an image processing unit extracting the obstacle from the images of the left and right sides; a memory unit wherein a program enabling a measurement of the distance between the vehicle and the obstacle using the images taken by the camera is recorded; and a control unit informing the distance between the vehicle and the obstacle acquired by considering a position value of the obstacle acquired from the images of the left and right sides, a focal distance, and a base line.
