PURPOSE:To produce a large amount of novel superoxide dismutase, by culturing a superoxide dismutase-producing strain belonging Nocardiopsis genus. CONSTITUTION:An actinomycete belonging to Nocardiopsis genus and capable of producing superoxide dismutase [Nocardiopsis sp. SAM-0081 (FERM P-8426), etc.] is cultured and superoxide dismutase produced and accumulated in the culture liquid is collected therefrom. The obtained superoxide dismutase has optimum working pH of about 8, stable pH range of 4.5-8.0, leaves >=80% of the activity after treating at 25 deg.C for 60min, is stable at about 50 deg.C by the heat-treatment at 7.8pH for 10min and leaves 90% and 50% of the activity by the heat-treatment under the above condition at 60 deg.C and 70 deg.C, respectively. It has a molecular weight of about 88,000. There is no inhibition of the activity by the addition of 1mM of KCN and the activity is decreased exponentially with time by the addition of 5mM of H2O2. |
