PURPOSE:To efficiently lay out a design object having a complicated connecting relation, by providing a means for displaying the construction drawing of a design arrangement area, and a coupling state drawing of each component of a design object to be placed in its area. CONSTITUTION:The coordinate value of an image displayed on the screen 25 of a display device 1 is inputted from an input device 4, and a design object name corresponding to this coordinate value is selected from a memory device 7. Subsequently, based on the system name (LPCS) of the design object selected and stored temporarily in an intermediate data storage part 5K, the names of all design objects having its system name are displayed on a menu area. Next, a menu position on the display image of the menu area of the display device 1 is designated by the input device 4, and a menu item (subsystem name) displayed on the menu position corresponding to this designated position is written in the intermediate data storage part 5K.
