In order to reduce the time and/or effort required for manual configuration and/or programming, data relevant for the operation of a machine (1) are stored in a memory component of a module pertaining to said machine (1), in particular an arithmetic (6) and/or data module (3), said module (3, 6) being in the form of a plug connector module which is compatible with a corresponding modular system of a plug connector (2). In addition, for data distribution, a switch module (14') is provided, which is also in the form of a plug connector module. The modules (3, 6, 14') can be mechanically fastened to the respective machine (1) and the data can be present in a form preprocessed for the network (4). Particularly the arithmetic modules (6) can be capable of network configuration and of recognizing other modules (3, 6', 14'), of retrieving data from other modules (3, 6', 14') or from components (11, 13,...) connected thereto or of controlling said components (11, 13,...). |
