PURPOSE:To position a connecting rod quickly and exactly by use of a simple method by placing one side of respective and faces parallel with each other an horizontal reference seats, shifting a shift rod horizontally, expanding a collet in the hole of the small end section subject to the force of a spring, and pressing the side face of the large section to a reference surface. CONSTITUTION:One side of the respective end faces W2 of a connecting rod W, which are parallel with each other, is placed on the horizontal reference seats 41 and 42 of a jig base 40, and the hole of the small end section is fitted with a collet 24. The horizontal and backward shift of a shift rod by means of the handle of a toggle device allows a roller 3 fitted with a lead channel channel 1a to be pushed up causing a lever 20 to swing around a pin 21 and position itself as shown by the solid line in the figure. As a result, the taper section 23a of a push rod is lowered subject to the force of a spring 28 to expand the collet 24 fixing the small section. On the other hand, the unclamp member 4 provided provided to the shift rod 1 is separated from a pushing arm 30, which is pulled by a spring 32 pressing the side face of the large end section to a perpendicular reference block being parallel with the shift rod.
