PURPOSE:To attain the contraction of an image by forming an image converting means for dividing an average value in a prescribed area of an original image into binary scale by setting up a fixed thereshold as a border. CONSTITUTION:The titled image processor is provided with an image input means 1, an image converting means 3, an image storing means 2, and an image output means 4 and the image converting means 3 has an image contracting circuit 20 incloding three line buffers 31-33 and four OR gates 34-37. An original image sent from the image input means 1 to the image storing means 2 is read out by the line buffers 31-33 in the image converting means 3, and when at least one ON bit is included in the leading nine bits of the line buffers 31-33, the ON bit is outputted to contract the image and the contracted image is outputted to the image output means 4. Consequently, characters or graphics can be recognized by the contracted images.
