A filter press, the filter plates (6) of which are suspended on horizontally arranged guide beans (1, 2), supported on both sides by pillars, and which filter press is provided with a wash portal (18) enclosing the filter plates (6) and the guide beams (1, 2), is to be equipped with shielding of the particular opening space of the filter plate package and, if required, the filter cake collection bunker, which shielding does not hinder the operation of the filter press, eg on exchanging the filter cloth or spraying the filter plates clean. For this purpose, two rails (25), preferably cables (27) are provided which laterally enclose the filter plates (6) and are connected to the pillars (1, 2) and which can be lowered in operation by an adjusting device (29) to beneath the filter plates (6). In the case of centrally suspended filter plates, the rails (25) in their tensioned position lie against the narrow sides of the filter plates (6) as a protective guide against oscillation. <IMAGE>
