PURPOSE:To make it possible to prevent the insertion failure caused by positioning failure by detecting the insertion amount of a component and its slip-down by bringing an attachment into contact with the component and by inserting it with weak insertion force. CONSTITUTION:The captioned chuck device is provided with a moving mechanism to move, position, and stop the whole of the chuck for holding a component 21 and an inserting mechanism to insert the component 21 held by the chuck with thrust variable at liberty. These mechanisms are to detect the insertion amount of the component to the hole provided for assembly and its slip- down during moving by bringing an attachment 31 into contact with the component 21 when being held and to insert the component 21 having finished positioning with weak insertion force. Therefore, since the insertion of the component to a specified position can be confirmed and missing of the component 21 can also be confirmed before assembling movements by detecting slip- down of the component 21, the loss of time can be diminished. And the insertion of the component with weak insertion force can prevent the insertion failure caused by positioning failure.
