PURPOSE:To improve the corrosion resistance of a metallic medium against environment of moisture, etc. and to considerably decrease the coefft. of friction between a memory body and head by coating a compd. consisting of at least one kind of material selected from an oxide, nitride and carbide having excellent compactness and electrical insulating characteristic on the top and bottom of the metallic medium and forming a specific thin metallic film under a carbonaceous film. CONSTITUTION:The thin compd. film consisting of at least one kind of the material selected from the oxide, nitride and carbide is coated as the 1st layer on a substrate and a thin magnetic metallic film is coated thereon as the 2nd layer. The thin compd. film consisting of at least one kind of the material selected from the oxide, nitride and carbide is coated thereon as the 3rd layer and the thin metallic film of at least one kind selected from Cr, Ti, Ta, Nb, Mo, and W is coated as the 4th layer. The carbonaceous film is coated as the 5th layer to constitute this memory body. The thin metallic films except the thin metallic film between the thin compd. film and the carbonaceous film are provided in order to assure adhesiveness and are, therefore, not essentially required. The memory body having the higher density and higher durability is obtd. with 50-200Angstrom film thickness.
