<p>The following stages are carried out after conventional leather tanning: a) pretreatment of the leather by retanning in a wet medium in the presence of an agent enabling the absorptivity of the leather to be increased, together with a base colouring; b) manufacture of the article from the leather thus prepared; c) dyeing of the leather of the article with the aid of a dye; d) application to the leather of an agent for levelling the colour and protecting the leather; e) application to the leather of an agent for fixing the dye; f) finishing the article by waxing, ironing, singeing and polishing the leather. In this way the article is given the definitive colour and finish only at the end of the process instead of this being done by the tanner, while the same final appearance is nevertheless maintained as in the case of an article manufactured according to conventional methods.</p> |
