The reed-type pressure transmitter has a sleeve-shaped diaphragm member which has circular cylindrical end pieces at its two ends and at least one elongated groove extending therebetween. A filler member 126, 113, 127 with an indentation for the groove engages in the diaphragm member with the formation of an interspace 120 for a pressure liquid. The filler member can be connected to a pressure measuring device in such a way that the latter indicates the pressure of the pressure liquid which is influenced via the diaphragm member by the pressure of a liquid into which the diaphragm member dips. The method consists in that a cylindrical sleeve is pushed onto a core which fills its cavity and which has between two cylindrical end sections at least one elongated indentation extending therebetween. For the purpose of forming the diaphragm member, the sleeve is then subjected to an external hydraulic pressure by means of which the cylinder wall is pressed into the indentation in order to form the groove. In one type of this method, a single-piece filler member forms the "lost" core. In another type of this method, a bipartite core is used which is extracted from the diaphragm member after the latter has been formed and is replaced by a three-part filler member 126, 113, 127. <IMAGE>
