A centre pole (1) is surrounded by an inner coil (5) which is bounded by two poles (2). An outer coil (4) having outer poles (3) is arranged around said two poles (2). For protection, the coils (4) and (5) are covered by manganese plates (6) at the bottom, between the poles. The coil (5) is switched on for transportation of individual metal sheets and produces, for example, a magnetic north pole in the pole (1) and, for example, the magnetic south poles in the poles (2). Once the individual metal sheet has been lifted, the coil (4) can be connected in order to increase the reliability (safety, security). The coil (4) is switched on for transportation of laminated cores. The coil (5) can be connected in order to assist the magnetic fields. <IMAGE>
